Erasure
  • A security model rule stating that objects must be purged before being activated or reassigned. This ensures that no information is retained within an object when it is reassigned to a subject at a different security level. (MTR-8201;)
  • A process by which a signal recorded on magnetic media is removed (i. e. , degaussed). Erasure may be accomplished in two ways: in AC erasure, the media are degaussed by applying an alternating field which is reduced in amplitude from an initial high value (i. e. , AC powered); in DC erasure, the media are saturated by applying a unidirectional field (i. e. , DC powered or by employing a permanent magnet). (CSC-STD-005-85;; NCSC-WA-001-85;)
