Alarm Sensor
  • In communication systems, any device that can sense an abnormal condition within the system and provide, either locally or remotely, a signal indicating the presence of the abnormality. Note: The signal may be in any desired form ranging from a simple contact closure (or opening) to a time-phased automatic shutdown and restart cycle.
  • In a physical security system, any of a group of approved devices used to indicate a change in the physical environment of a facility, or part thereof. Note: Sensors may also be redundant or chained as when one sensor is used to protect the housing, cabling, or power of another.
  • See also communications security, variation monitor.
