Network Monitoring
  • A combination of hardware and software attached directly to the network to analyze the status of the network. Such devices can have the effect of turning a host computer into a network analyzer. Such devices are used to supervise, maintain, and troubleshoot networks and are capable of monitoring all communication and to gain access to the contents of a user communications, but are not typically used in this way. Such devices provide a mans for responsible personnel to discover problems with the network and to initiate corrections. Where used to gain access to the contents of user communications, such devices constitute keystroke monitoring. (Source panel of experts).
