Public Key Encryption
  • Family of encryption methods in which each party has a public key that is not secret and a private key known only to the party.
  • Type of cryptography in which the encryption process is publicly available and unprotected, but in which a part of the decrypting key is protected so that only party with knowledge of both parts of the decrypting process can decrypt the cipher text. (Source: NSTISSI 4009).
