Binary Digit
  • A character used to represent one of the two digits in the numeration system with a base of two, each digit representing one of two, and only two, possible states of a physical entity or system.
  • In binary notation either of the characters 0 or 1. (FP) (ISO) 3. A unit of information equal to one binary decision or the designation of one of two possible and equally likely states of anything used to store or convey information. See also byte, code element, digital signal, octet alignment.
