Binding/Handshaking#
  • Process of associating a specific communications terminal with a specific cryptographic key or associating two related elements of information. (NSTISSI 4009)
  • A cryptographic checkword used to detect whether an element of data or set of data has been altered. (EKMS 004. 01);
  • an effectiveness criterion in ITSEC. Although security functions may be suitable for their individual purposes it is possible that certain combinations of functions or mechanisms may interfere or conflict with each other. In evaluating the binding of functionality a study is undertaken of the interrelationships of security functions and mechanisms, to ensure that they are mutually supportive and provide an effective and integrated whole (handshaking). (ISDCST+LSC-92).
