Process
  • A program in execution. It is completely characterized by a single current execution point (represented by the machine state) and address space. (DOD 5200. 28-STD)
  • The active system entity through which programs run. The entity in a computer system to which authorizations are granted; thus the unit of accountability in a computer system. A process consists of a unique address space containing its accessible program code and data, a program location for the currently executing instruction, and periodic access to the processor in order to continue.
